While in the group, Denise had an unprecedented chart run of over 20 top thirty UK singles including ‘System Addict’, ‘The Slightest Touch’ and the anthem ‘Rain Or Shine’. FIVE STAR were also the youngest British group to have a number 1 album and the first group to achieve 7 consecutive hit singles from one album in the UK.
Away from working with her family, Denise writes her own material as well as for others and enjoyed a successful writing partnership with Ryan Tedder (of One Republic), most notably penning the hit single Strike for teen star Nikki Flores.
After taking a career break to raise her two children, Denise joined the Michael Jackson musical ‘Thriller Live’ in 2009 as part of it’s original West End cast garnering great reviews for her outstanding performance.
In September 2011, Denise starred in another West End musical, ‘Respect La Diva’ where she wowed audiences with her sensational cover of Beyonce’s ‘Listen’ and a medley of Whitney Houston hits.
In 2012 she reunited with her brothers and sisters (Lorraine, Doris, Stedman and Delroy) as FIVE STAR to perform at the ‘Rewind Festival’ and on Channel 5’s ‘Celebrity Big Brother’. On the 22nd September they all performed together at G-A-Y in London. It would be the last time that Buster Pearson, their father and manager who formed the group in 1983, would see his children on stage as a few weeks later he sadly passed away.
In 2013 Denise signed a new management deal and got a dream gig – supporting The Jacksons on tour. Denise joined the UK leg of their worldwide Unity Tour performing to packed arenas in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow to great acclaim.
In September 2013 Denise released a song she penned called ‘Rafiki Yangu’ (Swahili for ‘My Friend’), as a celebration to Nelson Mandela and Africa’s fight for peace and posterity, with all profits from sales being donated to charity.
Denise’s debut solo album, ‘Imprint’ was released in the Summer 2014, and featured the singles ‘Free Fall’ with The Urban Soul Orchestra, ‘Close To Nowhere’ and ‘Freak Dance’, which was accompanied by a stunning dance video. The album received favourable press, with Denise being well championed by Radio 2. To support the album Denise went on a 16-date UK tour supporting Billy Ocean. Another dream come true!
In July 2015 Denise was invited to perform with Tito Jackson at Under The Bridge in London. On hearing Denise sing the legendary Jackson commented that ‘it was just like having Michael on stage next to him’.
At the end of 2015 Denise received another invitation to perform, this time from DJ and Producer, Sigala. Together they performed his number one hit, ‘Easy Love’, on the ‘Top Of The Pops’ New Years Day BBC1 special. The last time Denise was on the show was almost 30-years ago! A point duly noted by presenter Reggie Yates.
Denise is now back on the road with Five Star performing at festivals throughout the UK, whilst recording new material and making big plans for 2017!
